FAQ's

What is the difference between “German” and “French” reeds?

There is a much more gradual decline in the scrape of the reed from the heart to the tip in a French scrape. In a German scrape, the tip area is longer and more clearly defined.

What difference can you expect when playing on GE-1, GE-2 and GE-3 staples?

The GE-1 staples are narrower than the GE-2.

The GE-1 will tend to be a bit higher in pitch and have a more focussed tone.

Generally GE-1 or GE-3 suits Marigaux and GE-2 suits Rigoutat, Howarth & Loree

Note:  the Rigoutat ”J” model has a narrower bore and suits KGe-1 staples

What is the difference between a KGe “B” shaper and a KGe “D” shaper?

KGe “B” shaper plays with better intonation on instruments with a larger bore such as Loree, Howarth & Rigoutat

KGe “D” shaper plays with better intonation on oboes with a smaller bore such as Marigaux, Josef, KGe.
